Thanks for the post on Gaza cuisine. It's a subtle nod of respect for the fact that the people in Palestine/Gaza are--like folks everywhere--not just numbers and figures, but have a rich, interesting culture and life. An obvious fact...but one that is rarely told in our decontextualized MSM.

I found out about "This Week in Palestine" last year at the Lonely Planet Thorntree message board. Maybe because of having Western middle class sensibilities I found this glossy publication uplifting. But I still want to derive hope from this magazine, as a promise of Palestinians having normalcy in their lives.

The articles on cuisine and tourism make me wish to see Gaza as the front gate of Palestine. No violence or political chaos. Instead I'd see commerce coming to Palestine through Gaza harbor. People flying into Yassar Arafat airport to enjoy Palestinian culture and cuisine. Population density? Concentration camp? An organized Gaza could instead be the Tokyo of the Middle East.
